ZERMATT - ENCIRCLING THE MATTERHORN

THE RESORT

It is no surprise that Zermatt is widely recognized as the best winter resort in the world. It offers breathtaking panoramic scenery from nearly 4,000 meters, a superb infrastructure and amazing skiing conditions for beginners to experts who are looking to be challenged and discover new sights and slopes.

Zermatt embraces nature through the subtle and picturesque architecture of its village as well as its car-free policy—instead tourists move around in small electric vehicles or on foot. The beautiful hotels and luxury shops are always top attractions in the late afternoons.

The village offers magnificent views of the famous Matterhorn (4478 m), objectively one of the most famous mountains in the world.

THE SKIING

The resort offers a network of 200km of slopes with many slopes being situated at 3,000m in altitude or higher. Visitors to Zermatt can easily access the Italian side of the mountain, with the linked slopes of Cervinia and Valtournenche providing an additional 150km of groomed skiing.
No matter what your ski level is, you will always find terrain that will fit your wildest ski fantasies, all in a perfectly safe manner.

BASIC SKIING
The highly secured Wolli park is the ideal location for beginners. The slope is surrounded by safety nets and equipped with four motorized carpets to facilitate your learning. The flat and easy terrain offers a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. It is easily accessible to non-skiers where families can meet up and spectate. You can also go for a delicious lunch in the world’s best alpine restaurant chez Vrony that has 13 Gault-Millau points.

Divided into 3 resorts, the newcomer slopes are powered by 3 chairlifts and 1 T-Bar. The wide, flat slopes close to the Matterhorn provide the best playing ground to practice speed control, steepness variation and the quality of turns. You won’t find a more scenic place to go for the first time on snow.

EXPLORING AT YOUR OWN PACE
Once you get comfortable with the basics, you can move on to a cornucopia of slopes offering all sorts of experiences.
Some of our highlights include:

  • An international skiing day involves starting at the top of the Klein Matterhorn at 3880m
Skiing down to Italy to enjoy a fine Italian lunch on the slopes before heading back to Zermatt.
  • The top of the Rothorn offers you an amazing view, and a wide piste to perfect large carved turns in order to gain confidence and control as you engage more speed.
Your personal progress should certainly be rewarded with a lunch at Otmars whose owner is known for fishing his own Salmon in Alaska.

STEEP OR DEEP
Experienced skiers are guaranteed fun and challenges in Zermatt: some of the options include skiing the traverse of the three resorts, Trockernersteg-Riffelberg-Sunnega, for all day off-piste skiing following an itinerary with a few of our recommended secret spots: skiing four different 3000m peaks in one day and enjoying a different exceptional mountain restaurant every day while on the mountain.
As we can infer, Zermatt offers unlimited challenges and experiences you will remember for a lifetime.
